Lady Bulldogs Split Games


The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team had a tough but productive week, splitting two key games. They were downed by their rival, the Vidalia Lady Indians, on Tuesday, but followed with a victory against Savannah Christian on Thursday. vs. Vidalia
The week started with a tight matchup against Vidalia on Tuesday. Toombs County’s pitcher Taylor Bland started strong, but the Vidalia Indians ultimately prevailed with a 3-1 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs scored their only run in the first inning on an error. Vidalai came back with three runs in the third inning to take the lead. They held onto the lead thanks to a solid performance from Tori Polke in the circle, winning, 3-1 over Toombs.
vs. Savannah
The team bounced back in a big way on Thursday with a dominant 7-4 win over the Savannah Christian Lady Raiders. Taylor Bland was the star of the game, delivering a stellar performance on the mound with 12 strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Cyleigh Ennis put the Bulldogs on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. Toombs added two more runs in the second inning on a solo home run by Sage White, and an RBI single by Kylah Gay. That put TCHS up 3-0.
Toombs plated two more in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Savannah got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Toombs answered with one in the bottom of the frame to lead 7-1. Three more runs from Savannah in the top of the seventh inning made it interesting, but the Bulldogs closed them out for the 7-4 win.
On offense, the team was led by Sage White, who collected three hits, including a solo home run, and a solo home run from Cyleigh Ennis in the first inning that put the Lady Bulldogs on the board. The team added two more runs in the second inning on three hits, with Sage White hitting another solo homer and Kylah Gay singling to score a run.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to carry the momentum from their Thursday victory into their next games as they continue their season. Toombs is now 7-5 on the season and they are 2-2 in Region action. This week the Bulldogs played Pierce County on Monday and Swainsboro on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be at Metter on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
