Johnson Comes Back To Beat Vikings

The Treutlen County High School Vikings football team couldn't hold on to an early lead, falling to the Johnson County Trojans 28-13 in a game that saw a dramatic shift in momentum. The Vikings, playing at home, started strong, but a powerful second- half surge by the Trojans ultimately decided the outcome. The Vikings came out of the gate and got the offense moving. With approximately five minutes left in the first quarter, they capped off a solid drive with a rushing touchdown by Peanut Tobler from three yards out, seizing a 6-0 lead. The successful point-after kick by Leo Brinson extended their lead to 7-0.

Johnson County responded in the second quarter. With seven minutes remaining until the half, the Trojans found the end zone with a rushing touchdown of their own. However, a missed pointafter attempt proved crucial, as Treutlen maintained a slim 7-6 advantage heading into the locker room.

The momentum completely shifted after halftime. Johnson County came out in the second half and found their rhythm. They took the lead with a 90-yard touchdown pass with just three minutes left in the quarter. The Trojans followed it up with a successful twopoint rush, giving them their first lead of the night at 14-7.

Treutlen fought back, however. Just a couple of minutes later, the Vikings answered with a 65-yard touchdown run by Zan Stokes, cutting the deficit to one point. A blocked point-after attempt, however, left the score at 14-13 as the third quarter came to a close.

The fourth quarter belonged to Johnson County. The Trojans got moving, and with five minutes remaining in the game, they punched in another rushing touchdown and completed a two-point conversion, extending their lead to 22-13. They sealed the victory with yet another rushing touchdown in the final minutes of the game, bringing the final score to 28-13.

This week will be Homecoming for the Vikings as they host Wilcox County on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
