Lyons Shares Information on New Trash Services

The City of Lyons is sharing information about new trashcans that will be delivered to residents in the city limits, as the City has selected Allgreen Services as their new residential solid waste collection service. Recently, the City of Lyons reopened its bidding process for the residential trash collection services, ultimately selecting Allgreen Services as the contractor. Because of previously being contracted with Republic Services, the previous trashcans in the city must be replaced with trashcans from the new company. These new 95-gallon garbage carts will be delivered in the coming days and are to be used for household waste only; they will be serviced on a weekly basis.

The city’s usage of Allgreen Services will not begin until October, so residents should continue to use their Republic Services garbage carts until the final day of service at the end of the month. After the last scheduled pickup, residents should leave their empty Republic Services carts by the roadside so that they can be collected and removed.

When using the new carts, residents should ensure that all household waste is tightly bagged before being placed in the cart to prevent litter from being spread in the streets. Residents should also occasionally rinse out their cart with a garden hose to maintain sanitary conditions. On scheduled collection days, all carts should be placed by the road with white arrows on the cart’s lid facing the street by 6 a.m. or the night before. All carts should be at least three feet away from mailboxes, parked vehicles, trees, and other obstructions. Once the trash has been collected, remove the cart from the roadside.
