2 Wins For Lady Crusaders

The Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy won two games last week as they rolled over Vidalia Heritage Academy on Tuesday and then won a close game over Trinity Christian on Thursday. vs. Heritage

Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders easily dispatched the Vidalia Heritage Academy Lady Eagles on Tuesday, 15-0.

RTCA got on the board in the top of the first inning after Heritage committed an error, Annabelle Coe singled down the left field line, Braylin Pittman grounded out, and Kinsley Kennedy walked, each scoring one run.

The Lady Crusaders scored five runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Amelia Mercer singled, scoring three runs, Kennedy singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

RTCA scored six runs on eight hits in the top of the third inning. Mercer tripled, scoring one run, Coe singled, scoring one run, Pittman singled, scoring two runs, Briley Haire grounded out, scoring one run, and Anna Kate Joyner singled, scoring one run.

Coe stepped in the circle first for RTCA. The starter gave up two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Libby Clark began the game for VHA. The pitcher gave up 16 hits and 15 runs (12 earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Lizzie Sapp pitched one inning of shutout ball for RTCA in relief. Robert Toombs got off to a hot start, putting up a run in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Annabelle Coe. Trinity responded in the top of the third to tie the game at one, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a groundout that brought in a run.

Unfazed, the Lady Crusaders struck right back in the bottom of the fourth. Key at-bats by Anna Kate Joyner and Chesney Burch led to two more runs, putting RTCA ahead 3-2. Trinity tied the game in the top of the fifth inning at 3-3, but RTCA again took the lead back at 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth, Trinity plated another run to again tie the game, this time at 4-4. The Lady Crusaders’ poise at the plate in the final frame sealed the deal. Kinsley Kennedy drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh, claiming the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4.

The pitching staff held steady throughout, allowing six hits over seven innings and keeping the Trinity bats in check during crucial moments.

RTCA is now 9-2 on the season and they are 5-0 in Region play. It is a busy weeks for RTCA as they have three games. They were at Windsor Academy on Monday and then played a Region game on Tuesday at home against First Preparatory Chrisitan, both games after presstime. They will wrap up the week on Thursday on the road at Pinewood Christian at 6:00 p.m.
