In a closely contested regular-season soccer match, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons faced off against Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers on August 30, 2025, at Spartanburg, SC. The game concluded with a narrow 3-2 victory for Spartanburg Methodist.
By halftime, the scoreboard displayed an even 1-1, demonstrating a tightly matched competition. Brewton-Parker's Marielys Rosales and Laura Marin netted goals for the team. A pivotal moment in the match occurred at the 52:48 mark when Marielys Rosales received a red card, forcing the Baorns to play down a player. Angel Camacho handled goalkeeping duties for the Barons, doing her best to keep the Barons in the game.
Head Coach Phillip Borde shared his thoughts on the team's performance following the game. 'In all things I give thanks to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Chris for the opportunity to be in this profession, coaching the sport I love. Without him, none of this is possible.
First, our ladies worked extremely hard today. I thought we were the better team, and we were unfortunate not to get a result. We made things difficult for ourselves by laying down a player for the last 38 minutes. However, there are numerous possibilities for moving forward and continuing to grow as a program. The most significant thing I took away from the match was the team's determination to win. While I am disappointed with the outcome, I am proud of the performance and character our group showed today. I am excited to get back to the training field to get better, and as always in all things, I give thanks.'
The Barons are set to regroup and prepare for their next encounter against Georgia Southwestern State University on September 4, which will take place in Americus, Georgia. Following this match, the Barons hold a seasonal record of 1-1-0, looking forward to rectifying this setback with a strong performance in upcoming games.
