Wheeler County Sheriff Glenn Giles is warning citizens to avoid a current scam that is circling through the County.
According to Sheriff Giles, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office has been getting reports of citizens receiving fraudulent phone calls, demanding that the individuals pay money to avoid being arrested.
“Our office has received several reports of people getting phone calls claiming they missed jury duty and will be arrested if they don’t send money. This is a scam. The Sheriff’s Office will never call you to tell you that a warrant has been issued or demand money over the phone. If you truly had a warrant, we would come see you in person,” he explained.
Sheriff Giles said citizens should not send money to any of these callers and should hang up immediately if they receive one of these messages.
“Please share this to help us spread the word and protect others from becoming victims of this scam,” he concluded.
