Tough Night For Indians At Screven

A tough night on the road saw the Vidalia High School Indians football team fall to Screven County, 28-8, in a game defined by turnovers and missed opportunities. Despite flashes of explosive offense, the Indians struggled to keep drives alive, ultimately sealing their fate against a relentless Screven County defense.

The Indians' night got off to a promising start. After a strong defensive stand forced a turnover on downs, quarterback DJ Wallace broke loose for a long run, moving the ball deep into Screven County territory. However, the drive stalled and resulted in the first of several turnovers on downs for the Indians. Screven County capitalized quickly, with their running back punching in a 3-yard touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead.

Vidalia's offense continued to show sparks of life. On the next possession, a long run by Brycen Burns gave the Indians prime field position once again. But just like before, the drive faltered, and the Indians turned the ball over on downs.

The second quarter saw Vidalia's woes escalate. A key fumble recovery by Screven County set up another short-field touchdown for the Gamecocks, extending their lead to 140. The Indians went into halftime trailing as they could not finish drives on offense.

Screven County continued to lean on their ground game in the third quarter, capitalizing on yet another Vidalia fumble to score their third touchdown. Later in the quarter, they added a fourth rushing touchdown to make it 28-0.

Down four scores in the fourth quarter, the Indians refused to quit. Quarterback DJ Wallace connected with Jamarcus Bouyer on a 40-yard passing touchdown to finally get Vidalia on the board. The Indians followed up the score with a successful 2-point conversion, bringing the final score to 28-8.

While the loss is tough, the late-game touchdown offers a glimpse of the offense's potential. The Indians will look to clean up their mistakes and build on those fourth-quarter moments as they prepare for their next matchup.

This week the Indians will be at Tattnall County on Friday night with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
