Soperton City Council Holds Monthly Meeting
Mayor John Koon

During their regular scheduled meeting on August 18, 2025, the Soperton City Council voted on and approved several motions, one of which establishes acceptable truck routes within the city.

Mayor Koon stated this was the first reading of the ordinance, there will be two more readings, and the ordinance will be presented at a Community Information Session on September 25.

The Council approved 2026 LMIG projects. LMIG, or Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant, provides funding through The Georgia Department of Transportation to local governments for street improvements. The streets selected for improvement are Cardinal Drive, Hyman Avenue, Bell Avenue Extension, and the City Hall Parking Lot.

Also approved was a budget item authorizing the expenditure of $3000 toward the cost of an extractor for the City and County Fire Department. The extractor is a specialized washing machine designed for cleaning firefighter gear, effectively removing contaminants and carcinogens, resulting in safer equipment and extended life of the equipment.

The council approved moving the City’s Halloween Trick or Treat Night from Friday, October 31, to Thursday, October 30. This would avoid a conflict with the local Friday night football game. Trick or Treat time will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The next meeting is rescheduled for September 8 due to the Labor Day holiday. The meeting will include both a work session to begin at 5:00 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6:00 p.m.
