Vikings Open With Big Win

The Treutlen Vikings opened their 2025 season with a 41-18 road victory over the Twiggs County Cobras, in a game that was shortened by lightning in the fourth quarter. The victory marks the Vikings' fourth straight win over the Cobras.

Treutlen set the tone early. At the 9:27 mark of the first quarter, running back Za’Kian Tobler broke through for a 31-yard touchdown run. Leo Brinson added the extra point to put Treutlen on top 7-0. The Cobras answered on their first possession with a 6-yard run from Harold Crawford with 7:26 on the clock. But Twiggs missed the extra point as the Vikings held a 7-6 lead.

The Vikings immediately struck back when Deverin Knowles returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown. Brinson tacked on the PAT to put Treutlen on top 14-6.

The scoring frenzy continued. With 6:03 left in the first quarter, linebacker Zaniel Stokes intercepted a pass and took it 40 yards for a pick-six. They did miss the extra point, but that put the Vikings on top, 20-6.

The Cobras’ offense found a rhythm, as they connected on a 57-yard touchdown pass. They went for the two-point conversion but were unsuccessful. That made the score 20-12. The Treutlen offense, however, proved too much. Quarterback Kavion Peeples and receiver Zaniel Stokes linked up for two more touchdowns before the end of the first half: a 38-yard pass with 8:43 left in the second quarter, a 34yard pass with 2:58 remaining before halftime. Brinson hit both extra points as the Vikings held a 34-12 lead going into halftime.

On the first play of the third quarter, Twiggs hit a long touchdown pass for 70 yards to cut the lead to 34-18 with 11:39 remaining in the third quarter.

With 5:13 on the clock in the third, Peeples and Stokes connected again, this time for 50 yards. With the Brinson PAT the score was now 41-18.

That is when storms began to move into the area and caused a lightning delay. They tried to get the game back going but eventually called it with 9:30 left in the contest.

Zaniel Stokes was the star of the night, finishing with four touchdowns— three receiving and one on defense.

The Vikings (1-0) will open their home schedule against the Wilkinson County Patriots on Thursday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m.
