MoCo Extension Warns of New Harmful Leafhopper MoCo Extension Warns of New Harmful Leafhopper

Montgomery County Extension Agent Lauren Stanley is asking citizens to be on the lookout for an exotic bug which may harm cotton plants in the area.

The Cotton Jassid: Two Spot Cotton Leafhopper is native to the Indian Subcontinent, as it is usually found in Eastern Japan and Micronesia. This insect was found in Florida in 2024, and has now been spotted in many Georgia counties. These leafhoppers cause plants to appear with a “burn” on them and leaves to pucker.

Stanley asks that if anyone sees the insect or suspects an area to be infested with the bug, they should call the Montgomery County Extension Office at (912) 583-2240.
