Lady Bulldogs Dominate Calvary Day, Face Stiff Competition at Invitational

The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team played Calvary Day on Tuesday of last week, and then hosted West Laurens and Wheeler County on Saturday as part of the Highway 280 Invitational. vs. Calvary Day
The Toombs County Bulldogs exploded for 10 runs in the first inning on Thursday, cruising to a 12-0 win over Calvary Day at home.
Cyleigh Ennis got things started with a sacrifice fly, followed by a run scoring on a wild pitch. Londyn Johnson and Taylor Bland were each hit by pitches to bring in runs, while Sage White and Natalie Quintero delivered key RBI singles. White drove in two runs, Quintero added two more, and another scored on a passed ball to cap the early outburst.
Ennis also dominated in the circle, tossing four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine. Quintero, Haygood, White, and Johnson each recorded a hit, with Quintero and White leading the RBI column with two. The Bulldogs drew eight walks and played flawless defense, turning one double play and committing no errors.
Calvary Day managed just two hits, both singles by P. McCuen and G. Waller.
After the game, Toombs County Head Coach Hayne Brant said “We came out locked in from the very first pitch. That first inning set the tone, and I’m proud of how our girls stayed focused and played solid defense behind Cyleigh.” vs. West Laurens
TCHS fell to West Laurens 14-0 on Saturday at Toombs County High School.
West Laurens jumped out early with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Wilson, a sacrifice fly by Collins, and an RBI groundout from Brown. The Raiders continued to build their lead with a home run in the second and added six more runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Cyleigh Ennis got the start for Toombs County, allowing three hits and seven runs (three earned) over two innings. Natalie Quintero provided a bright spot at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 to lead the Bulldogs’ offense.
Despite the tough result, Head Coach Hayne Brant praised his team’s resilience.
“West Laurens is a really strong program, and games like this show us where we need to grow,” Brant said. “I’m proud of how our girls kept competing, and we’ll use this as motivation to get better moving forward.” vs Wheeler County
The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs dropped an 8-4 decision to the WCHS Dawgs on Saturday.
WCHS jumped out early with four runs in the first inning, taking advantage of an error before Anna Ethredge and Kaleigh Scott delivered RBI singles. The Dawgs extended their lead in the second with two more runs, capitalizing on another error and a groundout by Shelley Conner.
Taylor Bland went the distance in the circle for Toombs County, allowing just two earned runs across seven innings while striking out four. At the plate, the Bulldogs were led by Bland, Leighton Williams, Cyleigh Ennis, Natalie Quintero, Kylah Gay, and Sage White, who each recorded a hit. Bland, Ennis, and Quintero all drove in a run. Head Coach Hayne Brant credited his players for their effort despite the tough start, “We made some early mistakes that put us in a hole, but I’m proud of the way our girls battled back and kept fighting,” Brant said. “If we clean up the little things, we’ll give ourselves a chance to win those close games.”
