Lady Vikings Open Season with Dominant Win

The Treutlen County High School Lady Vikings softball team was able to get just one game in of the three they had scheduled for opening week as the others were postponed due to weather. But the game they did get in against Hawkinsville was a good one as the Lady Vikings rolled to a win. The Vikings' offense exploded for 13 hits en route to a comfortable victory.

Hawkinsville scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Treutlen answered with a run in the top of the second inning.

The game was tied 1-1 until the third inning, when the Vikings' bats came alive. Cloey Hutcheson broke the tie with a triple that drove in two runs. Ruthie Blair followed up with a single to extend the lead to 4-1. The Vikings put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to seal the win. The rally included a double by Hutcheson, and singles from Blair, Jayden Rogers, and Kaylyn Kight.

Hutcheson was the star of the show offensively, driving in four runs on two hits, including a triple in the third and a double in the fourth. Blair led the team in hits, going a perfect three-for-three at the plate. Ella Roberson also contributed with two hits. The team was aggressive on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Ella Roberson delivered a good performance on the mound, starting the game and pitching five innings. She surrendered just one run on five hits while striking out four batters and walking none. The Vikings' defense was solid behind her, playing a perfect game without committing a single error. Maya Brinson was a key player in the field, with the most chances for the team, tallying 11.

This week the Lady Vikings were back in action on Monday at Putnam County after presstime. They will be at Jefferson County on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. and at Telfair County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
