where they recovered several loaded firearms, loaded magazines, multiple boxes of ammunition, large quantities of illegal narcotics, and various drug-related paraphernalia.

In addition to the officers finding three men in the home, officers discovered several juveniles – ranging in age from toddlers to teenagers – were also in the house at the time of the search. Lyons police officers contacted the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services and notified about the situation. A DFCS representative soon arrived on scene.

Cody Alamia, Juston A. Carroll, and Cheylyn N. Cowart were all arrested on the following drug and firearm charges: Alamia – possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing authority; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; sale of marijuana; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of drugrelated objects; cruelty to children; violation of the Georgia Criminal Street Gang Act Carroll – possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing authority; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; possession of drug related objects; cruelty to children Cowart – possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing authority; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; possession of drugrelated objects; cruelty to children A juvenile was also charged with felony obstruction of an officer and sale of marijuana in the case. DFCS is responsible for handling the remaining issues regarding the children in the home.

Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker commented on the case. “The safety of our community is our top priority,” he emphasized. “This operation reflects the commitment of our department, and our law enforcement partners to removing illegal drugs and firearms from our streets. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and hold offenders accountable.”

Walker shared his gratitude for all of the agencies, especially the Georgia Department of Natural Resources K-9 team, and individuals who assisted in the investigation. Additional arrests expected in the future.

GUNS AND DRUGS – The Lyons Police Department seized several firearms and illegal substances from the home at 234 South Madison Street on August 4.
