Saturday, August 2, will be a day of celebration in the community, as back to school bashes are held in Vidalia and Mount Vernon to distribute school supplies and information about several local resources to families.

The Toombs County Back to School Bash will kick off the celebrations, as families may come to receive free school supplies, explore local resources, enjoy fun activities, and test their luck at winning door prizes from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Southeastern Technical College, located at 3001 E. First St. in Vidalia. This annual event is usually well attended, and helps students throughout the county to make sure they are prepared for success in the upcoming school year.

Numerous local organizations, schools, departments, and more will be represented at this event. For more information, or to donate school supplies, email familyconnection9@ gmail.com.

This year, Montgomery County will also have a back-to-school event, as DBM Roofing sponsors the 1st Annual Blessing of the Backpacks. This event will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on the Montgomery County Courthouse Square, located at 400 S. Railroad Avenue. The Blessing of the Backpacks serves as a way to bring the community together, and to support and encourage students as they begin the new school year.

During the event, school supplies, backpacks, and information on local resources will be distributed to students. For more information, or to donate school supplies, call (912) 585-7423.
