The Vidalia City Council approved several purchases and projects during the Council’s regular meeting on Monday, June 9.
The Vidalia Regional Airport’s primary runway will receive several new upgrades to its signage, lighting, and electrical system, as council members approved the rehabilitation and replacement of these components through a construction phase services contract with Passero Associates. The total cost of this project is $164,125.00 — 75% ($123,093.75) of which is covered by state funding and 25% ($41,031.25) will be funded through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue.
The Warmouth Sands Golf Course was authorized to enter into a 60-month lease for grounds maintenance equipment with VGM Financial Services. The equipment will come from Tri-State Pump & Control, Inc., and will cost $482,916.83 total, which will be paid from the Sweet Onion Golf Authority’s funds.
Sikes Brothers, Inc. was selected to complete the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) 2 Band 1 Project – Stockyard Road and the Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) Project – Repaving Broadfoot Boulevard to Highway 292. Sikes Brothers, Inc., had the lowest bid on the projects – charging $978,840.50 for Stockyard Road and $116,850.50 for the Broadfoot Boulevard repaving. These projects will be funded through the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) and Georgia Department of Transportation Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant funding, which allows them to be completed at no cost to the city.
SA Brown Enterprises was selected by the Council to remove and replace 150 linear feet of 8” PVC sewer pipe, repair 3 manholes, replace one manhole behind Vidalia High School, and replace an additional 50 linear feet of 8” sewer pipes behind Raymonia Apartments. Both SA Brown Enterprises and McLendon Enterprises bid on the project, but McLendon Enterprises later withdrew their bid prior to the meeting. The project will cost $35,000, which will be funded through SPLOST funds. Because the damage to these pipes and manholes occurred during Hurricane Helene, Vidalia City Manager Josh Beck shared that he plans to request reimbursement for the repair from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Council members also authorized the city to enter into a Utility Relocation Agreement with Georgia Power to help supply power to the Stockyard Road extension project. This relocation will cost $332,974, which will be funded through state grant funding.
The next meeting of the Vidalia City Council will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 14, in the city council chambers at the John Raymond Turner Municipal Annex, located at 302 East 1st Street in Vidalia. The meeting will begin with the administration of the Oath of Office to incoming Councilman Ronald Miller, who was recently elected to fulfill the unexpired term of the late Ward 3 Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem John Raymond Turner.
