VRD 8U Boys Take 2nd At State

VRD 8U Boys Take 2nd At State

The Vidalia Recreation Department's 8U boys team are the GRPA State Runnerup. They competed in the State Tournament at the Magnolia Sports Complex in Moultrie last week and came home with second place.

VRD vs. Sumter Co.

Up first for VRD was Sumter County on Tuesday of last week. Sumter took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Vidalia answered with two runs in the top of the second inning to tie the game, and then added eight more runs in the third to take a 10-2 lead over Sumter.

Sumter scored two more in the bottom of the third, but Vidalia again answered with two in the top of the fourth as they held a 12-4 lead.

Sumter scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth, and then Vidalia closed out the game with six more runs in the fifth inning to win the game by the run rule, 18-5.

VRD vs. Grady Co.

Up next for Vidalia was Grady County. Vidalia quickly jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning. They scored their first run on an RBI single by Kayge Merritt, and then they loaded the bases, and got a grand slam from Jordan Jackson to push the lead to 5-0.

Vidalia added seven more runs in the second inning off of RBI hits from Jett Montford, Will Shiver, Greyson Smith, and Jackson. That put VRD on top 12-0. Vidalia plated one more run in the top of the third inning, and added five more in the fourth as they took th win by the run rule, 18-0.

VRD vs. Wayne Co.

That moved Vidalia into the semifinals against Wayne County. Errors were one of the factors in this game as Wayne committed just two, while Vidalia had 9.

Wayne took the lead in the first inning with three runs and added three more in the second to jump out to a 6-0 lead over Vidalia.

Vidalia finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with three runs, but Wayne added three more in the fifth as they took a 9-3 lead. Vidalia scored just one more run in the game in the top of the sixth inning, as Wayne took the win, 9-4.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

That loss moved Vidalia into the losers' bracket, where they took on Emanuel County for a chance to get a rematch with Wayne. Vidalia got the bats going in this game as they belted out 15 hits on the way to another win.

Vidalia scored two runs in the top of the first inning off of RBIs from Anthony Jackson and Hilton Knight. But Emanuel came back with three runs in the bottom of the first to jump into a 3-2 lead.

Vidalia added four more runs in the top of the second inning with Montford driving in a run, and Shiver coming through with a three-run triple to take a 6-3 lead. Vidalia added two more runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth on the way to an 11-3 victory.

VRD vs. Wayne Co.

Championship In the Championship, though, Vidalia was held to just four hits as Wayne cruised to the win and the Championship. Wayne picked up one run in the first inning and another in the second to take a 2-0 lead. They added two more in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-0.

Vidalia plated their first and only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI hit by Jordan Jackson. Wayne answered with four more runs in the bottom of the inning, and one more in the fifth as they took the win over Vidalia, 9-1.

It was a good run for Vidalia as they finished as the State Runner-up. They also finished the season with a record of 27-7 and were also the runner-up in the Lyons Youth Tournament and in District.
