The Toombs County School System recently welcomed two distinguished visitors from Curitiba, Brazil, for a tour of the district’s athletic facilities. The delegation included Euler de Freitas Silva Junior, Secretary of Sports for the City of Curitiba, and Hideo Garcia, Superintendent of Works for Curitiba. Their visit to Georgia was part of a broader research effort to explore artificial turf field installations for future construction projects in their home city.

While in Toombs County, the delegation toured Jacky Jones Field at Booster Stadium, affectionately known as “The Pit.” The site visit focused on the school system’s artificial turf and its benefits for student-athletes and the community. Toombs County leaders shared the stadium’s rich history, the electric atmosphere of Friday night football games, and the dynamic use of the field during soccer season, a sport especially meaningful to the Brazilian visitors.

The guests also toured other Toombs County High School facilities, including the gymnasium and the baseball/ softball complex featuring a covered hitting facility. These visits provided insight into how modern athletic infrastructure can support student development and community engagement.

As a symbol of friendship and appreciation, the Curitiba delegation presented the Toombs County School System with an official flag of Curitiba, Brazil.
