VRD vs. Colquitt Co.
Vidalia played their first game against Colquitt County. VRD steadily added to their total in this game as they pulled away for an easy win.
Vidalia jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning when Anna Kate Gay hit a big RBI triple. Vidalia added a run in the second inning when Mack Lewis came in to score to make it 3-0. Vidalia plated three more runs in the third inning off EBI hits by Gay, Jada Harris, and Lewis. That extended the VRD lead to 6-0.
Colquitt finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs to close the lead to 6-3. Vidalia picked up another run in the fifth inning, but Colquitt answered in the bottom of the inning. But in the top of the sixth, VRD rallied to score five more runs on the way to a 12-4 win over Colquitt.
LRD vs. Lee Co.
Up next for Lyons was Lee County. This was another high scoring game that saw Lyons come out on top. Lyons pulled out the win, 1512, over Lee County.
VRD vs. Wayne Co.
Vidalia’s next game was against Wayne County. Vidalia again cruised to a win as they beat Wayne County by the run rule, 16-2.
VRD vs. LRD
That set up a local clash in the semifinals of the winners’ bracket with Vidalia and Lyons battling for a spot in the Championship Game. But this game was all Vidalia as they pulled away with 49 hits in the game.
Vidalia kicked off the scoring on an RBI double by Janna Hutcheson. Harris followed with an EBI single, and Lewis drove in a run with a single. Catie Ramsey drove in a run, and then Liyla Helmy made the score 5-0 with a hit.
Lyons picked up three runs in the bottom of the first to close the lead to 5-3. Vidalia added six more runs in the second inning off RBI hits by Gay, Emilia Faulk, Mae Morgan, Lewis, and Juliana McCaw. That pushed the VRD lead to 11-3.
Lyons got a run in the bottom of the second inning, but seven more from Vidalia in the top of the third extended the lead to 18-4. Lyons scored three more in the bottom half of the third to close the lead to 18-7. Each team plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning to make the score 20-9, one run shy of Vidalia taking the game by the run rule.
Then in the top of the fifth inning, Vidalia went on a run as they plated 12 more runs on 16 hits. That gave them a 32-9 lead over Lyons. Lyons scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning as VRD took the win, 32-10 to move into the Championship Game.
LRD vs. Emanuel Co.
The loss sent Lyons into the losers’ bracket to take on Emanuel County for a shot at a rematch with Vidalia. But Emanuel was too much for Lyons as they pulled away to win the game, 16-3. That gave Lyons third place.
VRD vs. Emanuel Co.
Championship Game 1 The first game was a close one, but Emanuel did just enough to take the win to force a second game to decide the State Champion. Emanuel came out on top of Vidalia by the score of 12-10.
Game 2
In the second game of the Championship, Vidalia was the team that came out on top as they took the win and the State Title.
Emanuel got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Vidalia answered in the top of the second inning with an EBI single from Lewis. Vidalia jumped into the lead in the third inning with four more runs. RBI hit came from Hutcheson, Gay, and Harris as Vidalia jumped in front, 5-1.
Vidalia pushed their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Emanuel scored just one more run in the game as they plated one in the bottom of the fourth inning. Vidalia went on to win the game, and the State Championship, 6-2.
