Vidalia 10U Girls Finish 2nd In District
The District 1 10U Softball Tournament was held in Effingham Couty last week with Vidalia taking second place. Lyons came away with third place. The State Tournament will be held in Lyons, so both local teams will participate in that tournament as well. VRD vs. Emanuel Co.
In the first round, Vidalia took on Emanuel County. Emanuel jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Vidalia answered with two runs in the top of the second inning, and then they took the lead in the top of the third with three more runs to take a 5-3 lead.
Emanuel came back in the bottom half of the third with three more runs to go back on top, 6-5. Vidalia again had an answer, with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, putting them on top, 9-6.
But Vidalia could not hang on as Emanuel rallied in the bottom of the sixth and final inning with four runs to pull out the win, 10-9. LRD vs. Effingham Co.
In the first round, Lyons faced off with Effingham County. Lyons ran away with the game as they defeated Effingham, 23-9. VRD vs. Effingham Co.
Vidalia rolled to a win in the losers' bracket over Effingham County. VRD had an incredible 30 hits in the game.
Vidalia led 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but Effingham scored two runs in the bottom half to take the lead, 2-1. Vidalia added two more runs in the second inning and one more in the third as they led, 4-2.
Vidalia continued to pull away with two more runs in the fourth, and then extended their lead with 11 runs in the fifth on the way to a 17-2 victory.
LRD vs. Emanuel Co.
In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, Lyons took on Emanuel County. Lyons played a good game, but came up short. Emanuel came out on top, 9-6, to advance to the Championship Game.
VRD vs. LRD
Vidalia added another 28 hits as they got the win over Lyons in the semifinals of the losers' bracket. It was again a late inning rally that pulled VRD ahead to the win.
Vidalia led 1-0 after the first inning and then added two runs in the second to lead, 3-0. Lyons plated a run in the bottom of the second, but VRD answered with a run in the top of the third inning to make the score, 4-1.
But in the top of the fifth inning, VRD rallied and scored nine runs to push their lead to 13-1. Lyons plated just one more run in the bottom of the fifth, as VRD took the win, 13-2. VRD vs. Emanuel Co.
Championship Vidalia again had the bats going as they pumped out 22 hits in the game, but they could not get them when they needed them as they scored only four runs in the game.
Emanuel led 1-0 after the first inning, and were on top, 2-0 after the second inning. Vidalia picked up their first run of the game in the top of the third inning, but Emanuel added two more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
VRD picked up two more runs in the fifth inning, but Emanuel answered with two in the bottom of the fifth to lead the game, 6-3. Vidalia gave it their all, but managed just one more run in the top of the sixth inning, as Emanuel took the
win, 6-4. Vidalia and Lyons will play next week in Lyons in the GRPA State Tournament. Lyons will play their first game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against Coffee County, and Vidalia will play at 6:00 p.m. against Colquitt County.
