Salem Sprints to Masters Win at Atlanta Memorial Day 5K

On Friday, May 24, local runner, Jim Salem took part in the Atlanta Memorial Day 5K Race. The Race is held annually in Marietta, GA. Salem was invited to run by some of the Atlanta Track Club members that he knows. The event included a 5k, 10k and a 15k race.
The race kicked off from the LA Fitness location. Runners ran down Piedmont Rd to the specific mile markers for their specific events and return to the LA Fitness location to finish their race. Salem almost missed a turn but still came in with first place in the Master’s Division and was third overall in the Men’s Division with a time of 19:28.50.
Salem said, “I could hear people talking about me after the race. Who is that man with gray hair, shades, gloves and wild shoes? I had guys coming up and giving me fist bumps and asking questions. I heard a voice under a tent say “that is Salem.” I walked over to the tent locations to be congratulated by several people that recognized me from my Savannah Races. It was a pretty cool moment.”
Salem has been invited back to join and to run more with the Atlanta Track Club. He is planning to attend more events in the future.
