Toombs County Seniors Receive Over $300,000 In Scholarships

Toombs County High School Seniors collected over $300,000 of scholarship funding during the Toombs County High School Seniors Honor Night on Monday, May 12.

The graduating seniors were recognized for receiving $325,198 of scholarship funds, many of which were renewable scholarships, bringing the Class of 2025’s four-year total scholarship funding to $1,075,292.

The following scholarships were announced during the ceremony: • Brinley Miller: Ki wanis Club of Vidalia R.E. Ledford Scholarship, Community Men in Acion Robin Matthews Scholarship, Barney Bonfield Memorial Scholarship, Brewton-Parker College Basketball Scholarship ($9,000 per year; $36,000 four-year total) • Betzaida Gonzalez Solorzano: T.R. Maxwell Scholarship, Meadows Medical Staff Scholarship • Casey Cantwell: Imago Dei Missions Scholarship; University of South Carolina – Beaufort Softball Scholarship, Honors Program, and Annual Award ($15,046 per year; $60,184 four-year total) • Shivani Patel: Tech nology Student Association – E.J. Stovall Scholarship, Georgia Southern University Presidential Scholarship • Summer Howell: Es telle Walker Jackson Memorial Scholarship • Noelia Nevarez: Meadows Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship For Higher Education, College Board Opportunity Scholarship • Giana Hamlin: Georgia 4-H Scholarship, Toombs County 4-H Scholarship, American Red Cross Scholarship, Liberty University Academic Scholarship and Champion Scholarship ($16,230 renewable for four years) • Autumn Jarriel: Skeeter Toole Memorial Scholarship, Toombs County Young Farmers Scholarship, University of North Georgia Admissions Scholarship, Billie Robertson Scholarship • Amelia Richter: Christine C. Harris Scholarship, Toombs County Young Farmers Scholarship, American Red Cross Scholarship • Andrea Gutierrez- Perez: Valdosta State University College Assistance Migrant Program ($18,000) • Kelvin Velazquez-Per ez: Valdosta State University College Assistance Migrant Program ($18,000) • Arturo Gomez: REACH Scholarship ($10,000) • Lagonza Hayward: REACH Scholarship ($10,000), University of Florida Football Scholarship ($46,458 per year; $185,832 four-year total) • Madison White: REACH Scholarship ($10,000) • Swan Cruz: Georgia Southern University Presidential Scholarship • Stephanie Eduardo- Ramos: Georgia Southern Presidential Scholarship, Goel Scholarship ($20,000 renewable for 4 years) • Makayla Sapp: Geor gia Southern University Presidential Scholarship, Honors Enhancement Scholarship • T.J. Stanley: Bil lie Robertson Scholarship, Georgia State University Football Scholarship ($31,428 per year; $125,872 four-year total) • Nora Grace Mer cer: Tallahassee State College Softball Scholarship ($25,000 per year; $50,000 two-year total) • Mike Polke: Mercer University Football Scholarship ($61,000 per year; $244,000 four-year total) • Aniston Powell: Brewton-Parker College Softball Scholarship ($9,000 per year; $36,000 four-year total) • Shaylin Stringer: Georgia Southern University Softball Scholarship ($13,246 per year; $52,984 four-year total) • Joseline Zamorano: Brewton-Parker College Soccer Scholarship ($5,500 per year; $22,000 four-year total) • Maritza Zamorano: Point University Soccer Scholarship ($6,750 per year; $27,000 four-year total) Four students were also honored during the ceremony for their decision to enlist in the military after graduation. Criz Munoz was recognized for joining the Georgia Army National Guard, while Arturo Gomez, Arnold Garcia Perez, and Kenner Perez were recognized for enlisting in the U.S. Marines.

To be an honor graduate with Distinction, students must have maintained a 90 or above cumulative GPA for all work completed throughout their high school career and have taken at least 11 classes that are designated as being Accelerated, Advanced Placement (AP), or Dual Enrollment courses.

To be an honor graduate, students must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 90 or above throughout their high school careers. Taking accelerated, advanced placement, or dual enrollment classes are not necessary to be named an honor graduate.

Students who were recognized as honor graduates are Laney Azbell, Anthony Ball, Alexis Cox, Javier Gonzalez, Miguel Granados, Jorge Herrera Martinez, Ryhanna Howard, Layla Howell, Jackson Jenkins, Rosalinda Jiminez-Cortez, Janee Johnson, Samuel Kelly, Anastasia Khabirov, Kayla Lopez-Gonzalez, Jasmine McLendon, Brinley Miller, Benton Page, Liam Pittman, Mike Polke, Aniston Powell, Noelia Rivas, Ethan Tippett, Kelvin Valazquez- Perez, Dylan Vetter, Madison White, Citlali Zamorano, and Josseline Zamorano.

Twelve students were recognized for having completed over 30 college credit hours at Southeastern Technical College with at least a “C” average or higher. Those students were Casey Cantwell, Stephanie Eduardo-Ramos, Elizabeth Garcia-Aguado, Betzaida Gonzalez-Solorzano, Maximiliana Hines, Blake Huey, Glendies Latoy, Carolina Medel, Noelia Nevarez, Erica Ramirez-Romero, Angie Sabillon-Varela, and Miguel Santiz-Perez.

Toombs County High School Class of 2025 officially turned their tassels at the Pit on Saturday, May 17.
