On Tuesday, May 6, the Toombs County High School boys soccer team made the long trip to Rome to face Armuchee in the GHSA Class A Division I State Elite 8.

The match got off to a tough start for the Bulldogs, as the Bulldogs conceded a goal just 20 seconds into play. Despite the early blow, Toombs quickly regrouped and battled back. With just 12 seconds remaining in the first half, senior Alejandro Tinoco calmly converted a penalty kick to level the match at 1-1 going into the break.

The second half was tightly contested, with both teams trading possessions and searching for the go-ahead goal. In the 70th minute, Armuchee strung together a series of precise passes that led to the eventual game-winner, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Bulldogs pushed forward in the final 10 minutes and generated several chances, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling 2-1 and bringing their 2025 season to a close.

“We game planned and talked about how important it was to get off to a fast start against this group,” said Head Coach Jeremy Moore. “We had a mental lapse in the first minute, but to the boys’ credit, they settled down, created opportunities, and tied it up before halftime. We executed our plan to take their top two threats away, but their role players stepped up and made the difference. I’m proud of how we fought.”

Coach Moore also reflected on the legacy of this year’s senior class, “This senior group has taken Toombs County boys soccer to another level. They’ve reached the Elite 8 three out of their four years, won two Region Championships, and brought home a State Title. What a résumé. They’ve put Toombs County soccer on the map as one of the premier programs in the state of Georgia.”
