Vidalia Heritage Academy (VHA) 3rd-5th grade students traveled to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on May 1, as the students led worship during the state’s annual National Day of Prayer service.

The student choir was invited to perform at this event by the National Day of Prayer coordinators, who desired to include music from a children’s choir during the service. Music and praise filled the air of the Capitol atrium, as students sang three popular worship songs: “God of This Place,” “Worship Through It,” and “The Truth.”

VHA Headmaster Jeff McCormick even led attendees in a formal prayer for education during the event, while VHA Student Evie O’Connor’s mother, Rizza O’Connor, led the people through a prayer for families. Senator Blake Tillery also took part in the event, as he helped to lead the prayer for government.

After the ceremony, Senator Tillery and Senator Chuck Payne took the students on a tour of the Capitol building, as they helped the youth to learn more about government.

VHA Headmaster Jeff McCormick commented on the event. “Next year will be my 20th year at Vidalia Heritage Academy and I have been a part of some incredible worship events. But I would have to say that listening to our students inside the capitol, singing unashamed and uninhibited praises to Jesus Christ, is probably one of the most emotional, moving, and spirit filled events of which I’ve ever been a part,” he remarked. “I wish that everyone could have been in that building, because even visitors when they heard the kids singing stopped, and tears would roll down their cheeks.”
