The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders baseball team swept the Highlanders of First Preparatory Christian Academy last week in the first round of the GIAA State Playoffs. RTCA hosted the Highlanders on Friday of last week for a double header. RTCA won the first game by just one run, but in the second game, RTCA won by the run rule. The second game was in the fifth inning when it was delayed by weather, and had to be finished on Saturday.

Game 1 It was a pitchers' dual in the first game of the series with Brittan Tabor on the mound for RTCA. RTCA had just three hits in the game with FPCA having just four. The game was scoreless over the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, Seth Holton came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Blake Durden. That one run proved to be the difference in the game.

RTCA defense held over the next three innings to take the win, 1-0 in the first game of the series.

Game 2

In the top fo the first inning the Crusaders scored two runs on error by FPCA to take an early 2-0 lead. They added to that lead in the second inning off a 2-RBI single by Tabor as they held a 4-0 lead.

RTCA added another run in the third inning on an RBI single by Anderson Moore to push the lead to 5-0. FPCA picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 5-1.

RTCA picked up one more run in the top of the fifth inning before the game was called. The game was then postponed in the middle of the fifth inning as weather moved into the area. On Saturday when the game picked back up, RTCA came out swinging. With runners on base, Moore came through with a 2-RBI single, and then Brody Randall added a 3-RBI hit as RTCA pulled away to an 11-1 lead. The Crusaders held in the bottom of the sixth to take the win by the run rule.

This week RTCA will be at Grace Christian on Saturday in the second round of the playoffs. The first game of the double header will start at 1:00 p.m.
