The Vidalia Rotary Club celebrated the Class of 2025 during their meeting on Wednesday, April 30, as they presented scholarships to six local high school seniors.
This year, because of additional funding raised through the annual Rotary Mega Bowl bowling tournament held on February 3, the Rotary Club was able to give two additional scholarships, along with their normal three memorial scholarships and a presidential scholarship.
Each applicant had to complete an application, write a brief narrative about themselves, and obtain a certain GPA to be eligible for the scholarship. “We had so many bright and intelligent applicants, and we truly enjoyed reviewing each one,” Vidalia Rotary Club Scholarship Committee Representative Ashley Crumpton remarked.
Vidalia High School Senior Anne-Claire Taylor was awarded the Smitty Snell Memorial Scholarship. After graduation, Taylor plans to study at the University of Alabama to become a speech therapist.
Vidalia High School Senior Ava Grace Helms received the Frank Moore Memorial Scholarship. Helms plans to study accounting at Georgia Southern University after graduation.
Vidalia High School Senior Dallas Nicole Handsome was presented the Zack Fowler Memorial Scholarship. After graduation, Handsome plans to study political science on a pre-law track and international studies at Spelman College to become an international lawyer.
Robert Toombs Christian Academy Senior Ella Grace Newton was awarded the Sam Polke Memorial Scholarship. Newton plans to study psychology at Georgia Southern University after graduation.
Vidalia High School Senior Hannah Marie Nichols received the Lisa Adams Memorial Scholarship. After graduation, Nichols plans to study industrial engineering and possibly finance at Mercer University.
Vidalia Heritage Academy Senior Mallie Beth Braddy was presented the Vidalia Rotary Presidential Scholarship. Braddy plans to study nursing at Brewton-Parker College after graduation.
Rotary Club members congratulated these seniors on their accomplishments and wished them well in their future endeavors.
