Vikings Fall To ECI In First Round

The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team saw their season come to an end in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs last week. The Vikings were on the road to take on the Bulldogs of Emanuel County Institute on Thursday of last week in a best-of-three series. ECI won the first two games to take the series.

Game 1

Treutlen took the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off a 2-RBI single from Jack Walker. They added one more run to hold a 3-0 lead over ECI. But in the bottom of the first inning, the Bulldogs plated four runs to jump out in front of the Vikings, 4- 3.

Then in the third inning, ECI added three more runs to take a 7-3 lead over Treutlen. The Vikings did pick up a run in the top of the fourth inning, but two more from ECI in the fifth made the score 9-4.

Treutlen managed to score two in the top of the seventh, but ECI held on to take the win, 9-6.

Game 2

In the second game of the series, Treutlen was the home team. They again got on the board first with an RBI single from Acie Doickens in the bottom of the first inning. The Vikings held that lead, and added another run in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning.

ECI then took the lead in the sixth as they scored five runs, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Treutlen was not able to get any more across as they fell to the Bulldogs, 7-2.

The losses ended the Vikings season with an 11-15 record.
