The Montgomery County Board of Education (MCBOE) tied up several loose ends to end the 2023-2024 school year during their regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 13.

The meeting was previously scheduled for Thursday, May 9, but was delayed because of the severe weather and damage throughout the County. During the new meeting date, board members approved several contract renewals to finish the current school year and begin preparations for the upcoming 2024/2025 school year. These contract renewals included the school’s renewed agreement with the Wheeler County Alternative School and a Strategic Waiver School System (SWSS) contract, which helps to hold the school accountable for student achievement. In addition to this, the FY23/24 budget was amended to reflect the school’s actual revenues and expenditures.

Several pieces of outdated technical equipment were declared as surplus, and board members agreed to let these items be sold through the Eagle Thrift Shop after all content on them was erased. This idea was first mentioned in previous months by Technology Director Billy Goodwin, who said that he is contacted daily by buyers wanting to purchase the old equipment.

Resignations were accepted for Department of Exceptional Learning (DEL) Paraprofessional Shanerica Hullender and Bus Driver James Love.

The Board approved several new hires, including Maintenance HVAC Technician Brandon Brunner, High School Department of Exceptional Learning Teacher Tara Bishop Toole, and Elementary School Department of Exceptional Learning Teacher Kristi Butler.

Madison Farrow and Jasmine Brantley were both approved to work within the school system as substitute teachers, and Jennifer Brantley was hired as both a substitute teacher and substitute bus driver.

Current Montgomery County Elementary School Teacher Kera Nobles was named a Montgomery County Middle School Softball Coach, while Nico Snead was approved as a Montgomery County Middle School Volunteer Football Coach.

The Board will not have any work sessions during the months of June and July, but they do have meetings scheduled each month. The next meeting will be June 17.
