CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Matt Vespa, Senior Editor at Townhall.com: What the hell does Christine Blasey Ford want?

[The View] co-host Sarah Haines was aghast that some people are still skeptical about her story. It’s not some, Sarah. Anyone who doesn’t have a mental illness knew Ford was full of it. There’s no corroborating evidence for any of her claims. There’s zero evidence that Ford even met Kavanaugh. Look, we beat Ford and the Democrats once. We can do it easily again because this woman isn’t playing with a full deck. Ford’s lawyer admitted long after Kavanaugh’s confirmation that protecting abortion rights was the motivator for what appears to be a fake rape story. She also said she would do it again and has zero regrets. That’s psychopathic.

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Biden's 'lawfare' joke.

And this is a joke Biden told, according to news accounts: 'Our big plan to cancel student debt doesn't apply to everyone. Just yesterday, a defeated-looking man came up to me and said, 'I'm being crushed by debt. I'm completely wiped out.' And I said, 'Sorry, Donald, I can't help you.'' Ha ha ha. The media audience, of course, laughed. With one joke, Biden acknowledged the work his party's lawfare warriors have done in the Trump matter. And how could Biden not be grateful? He's trailing Trump in the polls, facing an electorate that largely believes he is too old for a second term, and is underwater in approval ratings for his handling of most issues.

Rebecca Downs, Web Editor at Townhall. com: Joe Biden is back… to tripping and repeating debunked narratives.

The president's decision to go to Nevada is also potentially an interesting one. Nevada has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 2008. Biden won it with 50.1 percent. However, RealClearPolling has Trump leading Biden by +5.6, with 46.3 percent to Biden's 40.7 percent support. The state also elected Republican Governor Joe Lombardo in 2022, who managed to beat Democratic incumbent Gov. Steve Sisolak and flip the state red.

Liz Peek, Fox News contributor and political commentator: Biden's 2024 campaign is a game of Trivial Pursuit against Trump because he's out of ideas.

We’re all getting used to the notion that Joe Biden, ostensibly the most powerful man in the world (No Joke! As he might say) needs to be led around like a puppy on a leash. And that he frequently ducks questions by saying he’s 'not allowed' to speak freely, though the evasion rankles. Not allowed by whom? Who is setting those guidelines?

But it isn’t just the president’s obvious dimness that creates a perception of weakness. It’s also that much of what Biden addresses is small potatoes – like his absorption with 'convenience' fees on concert tickets and declaration of war against title insurance.

Why this dumbing-down of the president’s role? Because he has no answers for the big issues – the problems that are crushing his approval ratings. He won’t cut spending to staunch inflation, won’t revisit Trump’s policies that curbed illegal immigration and won’t buck soft-on-crime progressives in his party.
