Impaired drivers and others attempted to avoid what they believed was a police checkpoint and quickly exited onto nearby ramp, upon which officers were waiting to check the vehicles. Richard Williams, of Uvalda, and William Hall, of Hazlehurst, were arrested after they took the exit and were met with multiple law enforcement officers. Deputies searched the men’s vehicle and discovered approximately 5 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Officers suspect the pair had traveled to Atlanta for a resupply of drugs and were planning to return to the local area to sell the substances.

Both men have been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, but the investigation is still ongoing.
