CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Bidenomics 2023: Inflation down, prices up.

Voter unhappiness with Biden's economic performance is at the heart of the recent New York Times poll that terrified Democrats — the poll showing former President Donald Trump beating Biden in five of six critical swing states. 'Voters, by a 59% to 37% margin, said they better trusted Mr. Trump over Mr. Biden on the economy, the largest gap of any issue,' the Times reported. …

Could it be any clearer than that? You can't 'make voters believe something they don't.' Americans are living the Biden economy in their own lives. Yes, they might be marginally pleased that prices are going up less quickly than before. But don't try to tell them things are going well for them economically when they know it's not true.

Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich: The mounting evidence Biden got rich from dictators like China's Xi.

To be clear: This is not about politics. America is at risk. A profoundly dishonest head of a profoundly dishonest family happens to be President of the United States. He is so corrupt and lies so frequently, it is impossible to know what might happen.

Remember that when President Biden meets with Chinese Communist Dictator Xi Jinping. It is the paymaster meeting with the head of a family he has helped enrich. Every American should be worried.

This is not a TV show. This is reality. It is far scarier than Tony Soprano could ever have imagined.

Kurt Schlichter, political commentator: Chaos is a choice.

But, of course, the reality is that if you are a Democrat politician, you don’t work for normal Americans. You work for rich liberals, including woozy wine moms, pinko activists, and bizarre pronoun people. You also work for the bums and the criminals. You don’t work for anybody in between. It’s either rich people, or bums. One or the other. That’s your coalition. Except for some reason, normal people still vote for you. After a while you have to assume that they know what they’re voting for and that they’re happy with their choice. But it is a choice. Chaos is a choice. Stop choosing it.

Leah Barkoukis, online features editor at Townhall.com: John Kennedy stumps another Biden judicial nominee on basic legal terms.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, the senator asked Sara E. Hill to explain the difference between a “stay” order and an “injunction.”

'A stay order would prohibit, um, sorry. An injunction would restrain the parties from taking action. A stay order … I'm not sure I can, actually can, can give you that,' she answered.

According to the Legal Information Institute, 'An injunction is a court order requiring a person to do or cease doing a specific action,' while a stay 'is an action taken by a court to stop a legal proceeding or the actions of a party.'
