Indians Take Super Regional

After missing a trip to Columbus last year, the Vidalia Lady Indians punched their ticket to return to the Fountain City on Thursday as they defeated Dodge County to claim their GHSA Super Regional. With the win, the Lady Indians will next play in Columbus on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the GHSA State Softball Tournament against Mt. Paran Christian out of Kennesaw. vs. Central VHS started out their Super Regional run with a game against Central of Macon. It was an easy win for the Indians as they rolled to a run rule victory. In the nightcap on Wewdnesday of last week, the Lady Indians got on the board first with Emma Vinson’s second home run of the year, giving Vidalia a 1-0 lead after the first inning over Dodge County.
Dodge Co. took the lead back in the top of the second inning when the Lady Indians committed three errors, allowing two unearned runs, and Dodge Co. led 2-1.
But the lead did not last long, as the Lady Indians played small ball with two bunt singles, a stolen base, and two wild pitches later, Vidalia led 3- 2.
From there, Tymber Harris settled in and struck out 16 Dodge Co. batters while allowing just one hit to get the win. Dodge County had a chance to tie the game in the 7th inning. With a runner on 3rd base with two outs, a wild pitch got by Vincent, allowing the runner to try and score, but the ball bounced straight back to Vinson, who easily applied the tag to end the game. vs. Dodge Championship In Thursday’s game, Tymber Harris started the game as she finished Wednesday’s game against Dodge, striking out nine straight batters after a total of 16 on Wednesday. Dodge County’s pitcher, Brookes Perdue, was also on point through the first three innings, holding Vidalia scoreless heading to the bottom of the 4th inning.
But, in the bottom of the 4th, all that changed when the Lady Indians got on the board when Emma Humphrey blasted a two-run home run, scoring Emma Vinson ahead of her, who had reached on an error, to make the score 2-0. That was followed by another long home run, this time from Tymber Harris, to put Vidalia up 3-0.
The Lady Indians added a run in the bottom of the 5th inning on a Laylah Brantley RBI scoring Diedre Boston, who had reached on an error, to make the score 4-0. In the top of the 6th, Dodge County got on the board when Perdue scored on a sacrifice fly after leading off the inning with a double.
The Lady Indians got that run back in the bottom of the 6th inning when Harris and Gabby Royal each singled. Then, with two outs, Dodge County commited two errors on one play, allowing courtesy runner Mia Howard to cross home plate to give Vidalia a 5-1 lead.
Dodge County closed the gap in the top of the 7th on a 2-run home run by Melena McDermitt, but the Indians recorded the final out on a groundout to Brantley, and the celebration was on.
Harris finished the game with 15 strikeouts for a combined 31 k’s against Dodge County and 35 for the Super Regional. With the win, the Lady Indians stand at 21-8 on the season. VHS will play on Wednesday in Columbus at 3:00 p.m. in the GHSA State Softball Tournament against Mt. Paran Christian.
