Yumion Celebrates Valentine’s Day

It was a few days before Valentine's Day in the town of Vidalia, and Yumion was getting ready to celebrate. He gathered his onions and went into town. This year he planned to do something different. Yumion was going to give out his sweet onions for free. You see, he had put a very special ingredient into his sweet onions to bring out the Valentine's Day spirit. What was the special ingredient you ask? It was love, of course!

Yumion walked the streets passing out his special sweet onions. He made sure that each of his friends received one of his valentine onions. He was very happy when he found he was down to the last onion in his basket.

Two days passed and Yumion noticed that something was off. All of the people he had given his special onions to were breaking up with their girlfriends or boyfriends. Yumion couldn't figure out why his onions had failed to bring out the Valentine's Day spirit. He discovered his sweet onions with the special ingredient of love had enhanced his friends' love for someone else. He immediately set out to stop the effect, but it wasn't going to be that easy.

First, Yumion went to meet with the master of love, Cupid himself; however, Cupid had a bad case of chickenpox. Since they couldn't meet in person, Yumion thought he would write Cupid a letter asking for his help. Yumion wrote to Cupid explaining what he had done. He explained that he had put a little something extra sweet in his onions and asked how to reverse the spell that he had cast. Yumion waited for Cupid's reply.

In his letter, Cupid wrote, 'Since your Vidalia Sweet Onions are already very sweet, you have made them too, too sweet when you added the special ingredient of love. Too much of a good thing can be bad. I suggest you try adding something bitter.

Yumion thought maybe I should just use regular onions. Everyone knows that they are bitter, so Yumion got some regular onions and added a little of their bitter juice to his too sweet Valentine onions. After making sure all of his friends received one of these new onions, he waited to see what would happen.

After only one day, Yumion knew something had gone terribly wrong! Everyone now hated each other. Once again, Yumion decided to ask Cupid for advice. When Yumion went to see him this time, Cupid was very, very angry with Yumion. He told Yumion that he had to figure this one out by himself.

Yumion thought and thought about what he should do. He realized that Vidalia Sweet Onions are just sweet enough on their own. In fact, they are perfect just the way they are!

Yumion gathered as many of the original sweet onions as he could. Once again he made sure all of his friends got one from this batch. In less than a day, everything was back to normal.
