A single-vehicle accident in Wheeler County during the early morning hours of Thursday, April 6, has left a 22 year-old man in critical condition.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s investigation, Sheldon Clark was traveling southbound on State Route 19, when he failed to maintain his lane and traveled off the western edge of the roadway. Upon leaving the road, Clark’s jeep continued southbound, striking the ditch and a mailbox, then vaulting and flipping. The vehicle came to a final uncontrolled rest overturned on its side, facing west approximately 18 feet away from the road.

While the accident is estimated to have happened around 4:34 a.m., dispatch was not contacted until 5:02 a.m. Upon arrival, responders found Clark ejected from the vehicle with serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, and was later flown out to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he continues to recover.
