Library System Announces Yumion Writing Contest

The Ohoopee Regional Library System announces the start of the 2023 “Yumion Writing Contest.” The contest is open to those in kindergarten through eighth grade, with cash prizes for first, second, third, and honorable mention. Entries will be judged based on creativity and winners will be announced during the 2023 Vidalia Onion Festival.

Entries are divided into the following categories: Grades K-2* (Draw us a picture! Tell us your “Yumion” story through a drawing.)

Grades 3-4 (200-350 words) Grades 5-6 (350-500 words) Grades 7-8 (450-650 words) *Grade 2 has the option of drawing a picture or writing a story (suggested length of entry, 50-150 words) A separate sheet of paper stating the author’s name, address, age, grade, school, and telephone number must accompany each entry. No name should appear on the entry itself and the entries should not be placed in binders or folders.

Visit the closest library branch in Jeff Davis, Montgomery, Tattnall, and Toombs for complete contest guidelines. Contest information has also been sent out to local schools. All entries must be submitted by closing on April 1, 2023, at a participating library branch.
