BPC Women’s Wrestling Competes

The Brewton-Parker College women's wrestling program faced off with Limestone University in South Carolina and then were at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, MO, over the weekend. vs. Limestone

No. 13-ranked Brewton- Parker women’s wrestling traveled to Gaffney, South Carolina, to compete in the first dual of the season against NCAA DII opponent Limestone (S.C.) on Tuesday night. The Lady Barons (1-0) secured their first win of the season in a 31-13 defeat over the Saints (1-1).

Brewton-Parker opened the dual with three forfeits in the 101, 109, and 116 bouts. Elora Waterman, Gabriela Galvez, and Jamesa Robinson were credited with the forfeit wins to give BPC a 15-0 lead to start the dual.

At 123, Alesandra Burgos took down Caroline Schmitt in a 10-0 tech fall (1:27) to give the Lady Barons four additional points. Madisyn Blackburn followed with a 10-0 tech fall of her own (0:00) against Alyssa Garza in the 130lb bout.

With a 23-0 lead in the dual, Hannah Mains pinned (1:53) Katelynn Neal in the 136 match to give the Saints their first five points of the dual. At 143, Clara Padua-Cruz secured a pin (1:23) on Sierra Hartfelder to move the score to 23-10. Amalani Latu scored Limestone’s final points of the night with a 4-0 decision over Mel Mercado in the 155-lb bout to move the Saint’s team score to 13 points. At 170, Katelyn Lewis defeated Shelsy Renous with a pin (1:09) to give the Lady Barons a 28-13 lead. In the final bout of the night, India Page secured an 11-4 decision over Journey Land at 191 to seal the 31-13 victory over Limestone.

Brewton-Parker women’s wrestling traveled west to compete at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri, over the weekend.

The Lady Barons took part in a two-day open tournament that was loaded with wrestlers from over 40 colleges and universities. One of nine BPC wrestlers earned a placement for the weekend with two of the nine making it to the second day of action on Saturday.

India Page highlights the trip with her fifthplace finish in the 155lb division. Page opened with back-to-back pins in the first two rounds and followed up with backto- back decisions. She then lost two-straight matches before securing the fifth-place match in a 6-2 decision.

Gabriela Galvez competed in the 101 class, finishing with a 0-2 record while Nicole Chandler finished 0-2 in the 116 division. Alesandra Burgos earned a 3-2 record with a pair of wins in the 13lb division.

Jorie Richardson also picked up a 3-2 record while competing in the 136lb bracket. She notched two tech falls and a pin. Migdalys Ramos made it to Saturday’s action in the 143lb division, producing a 4-2 record for the weekend. She produced three decision wins and a pin to give herself a chance at placement.

Sierra Hartfelder also competed at 143, finishing with an 0-2 record. Avry Warren and Katelyn Lewis both competed in the 170lb bracket. Warren picked up a pin to open the tournament before dropping a pair of losses. Lewis notched a 2-2 record, producing a pair of pins.

The Lady Barons return to action at the Cumberland Duals in December.
