Wheeler Falls In 2 Games

It was a tough week for the Wheeler County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team as they dropped both games they played. They were at Portal on Wednesday and then traveled to Wilcox County on Thursday.

vs. Portal

Portal got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with one run. They added two more in the third inning and three in the fourth as they built up a 6-0 lead. Wheeler was able to plate a run in the top of the sixth inning, but that was all they could get as they fell to the Panthers, 6-1.

Kayleigh Sanders led the way for Wheeler with three hits on the day.

vs. Wilcox

On Thursday in Rochelle, the Lady Patriots of Wilcox pulled away for the win. They scored one run in the first and one in the second. Wheeler tied the game at 2-2 as they plated two runs in the top of the third inning. But Wilcox added a run in the bottom of the frame to go back on top. Wheeler matched that in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Wilcox opened the game up as they scored five runs to jump to an 8-3. Wilcox added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth as they took the win by the run rule, 11-3.

This week Wheeler was at Montgomery County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday in Hawkinsville at 5:30 p.m.
