Newsweek Names Meadows As a Top Maternity Hospital For Second Year in Row

For the second year in a row Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia has been included in Newsweek’s ranking of “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.”

Meadows was among four hospitals in Georgia at the top of the list for 2022. Also named were Northside Hospital Atlanta, Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. The list names the top 350 hospitals divided into two categories: five ribbon (161 hospitals) and four

ribbon (189 hospitals). All four Georgia institutions received four ribbons.

Newsweek based its ranking on three data sources: A nationwide online survey in which hospital managers and maternity healthcare professionals, such as neonatal care providers and OB/GYNs, were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals; Medical key performance indicator data relevant to maternity care, including a hospital's number of cesarean births; And patient satisfaction data or how patients rated a hospital's medical staff for responsiveness and communication. “I’m so proud of our Women’s Care team and the great work they do, said Matt Hasbrouck, Meadows Hospital CEO. “Expectant moms in our region have access to excellent care right here at home and we hope they will choose us for their special delivery.” “We are so excited about this,” said Heather Hooks, RN, BSN, Director of Women’s Services at Meadows. “It’s really great that as a rural community we are able to provide such high-quality care for mothers and their babies.” She added, “Our goal is to ensure the best care possible from a quality standpoint and multiple standards for quality are hardwired into our process.”

Dr. Susanna Meredith, who is one of the four OB/GYNs practicing at the Women’s Center, noted, “Having a baby is a very special time for mom and her family. Our Women’s Center team strives to provide a safe delivery and a memorable birth experience. We provide exceptional obstetrics care close to home and our goal is to be the provider of choice for moms in Toombs and surrounding counties.” Meredith is a native of Toombs County who is dedicated to providing quality care for women in this area. Also practicing at the Women’s Center are OB/ GYNs Dr. Stanley Morgan, Dr. Ashlee Nicole Tillery and Dr. Anju Sinha, as well as certified nurse midwives Christy Brocato and Angel Gilreath. The Vidalia facility provides comprehensive care for expectant mothers, from labor and delivery to postpartum care. The Maternity Center, which opened in 2011 as part of the new Meadows Hospital, also offers dedicated high-risk pregnancy rooms for women who require extra monitoring and attention prior to childbirth. Among the Center’s

services are: Ultrasounds and screenings that help track fetal development through each stage. With newly advanced ultrasounds, parents can see both 3D and 4D images of their developing baby's face as early as the 32nd week of pregnancy.

Patient and surgical suites that are specially designed with hotel-like amenities, spacious patient rooms and a dedicated surgical suite for Csections.

Newborn care for both healthy babies and infants born with special needs, with a clinicallyadvanced nursery with dedicated space for special needs babies. Childbirth preparation classes taught by experienced staff.

Comprehensive childbirth education classes that cover the anatomy and physiology of birth, the process of labor and delivery, coping skills, comfort measures, and pain management options available to make delivery easier, what to expect post-delivery, postpartum care, and an overview of newborn care and breastfeeding.

A breastfeeding support group led by Certified Lactation Counselors.

Monthly class on breastfeeding basics led by an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant.
