Toombs County 4-H Modified Trap Team Wraps Up Successful Season

The Toombs County 4-H Modified Trap shooting team attended district and state matches this spring. Youth from Toombs County Schools, Vidalia Heritage Academy and Vidalia City Schools participated on the team. Each member attended weekly practices receiving training from Georgia 4-H Certified Coaches.

All team members attended the district qualification match with hopes of breaking enough targets to qualify for the state match. The district qualifier was held in April in Lyons. The event was hosted by Toombs County 4-H.

Junior team members in 7th and 8th grades participating included: Tyler Best, Taylor Copeland, Jackson Curl, Sean Fitzgerald, Grayson McMillian, Alex Patrick, Modesto Quintana, Cody Smith, Adain Varnadore, and Joshua West. Senior team members in grades 9-12 participating included: Wayde Bolden, Adam Copeland, Tucker Copeland, Jazlyn Denmark, Ty Foskey, Andrew Hodges, Blake Huey, Noah Huey, Caleb Jackson, Dawson McLendon, Hailey Morgan, Allyssa Norfleet, Caroline Page, Ryan Page, Mason Sikes, Memphis Soles, Jayce Taylor, Cason Thigpen, Drew White, and Clayton Williamson. At district, twenty-one members from Toombs County advanced to the state competition. Adam Copeland finished the day by breaking twentyfive of twenty-five targets to earn score for Toombs County. The Toombs County 4-H Shotgun Team finished the 2022 Season by attending the State 4-H Modified Trap State Match at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on May 7, 2022. Over 600 youth statewide were registered for the event.

Junior team members advancing to state included: Tyler Best, Taylor Copeland, Sean Fitzgerald, Grayson Mc-Million, Alex Patrick, Cody Smith, Adain Varnadore, and Joshua West. The members competed as individuals and one teams of five. The Toombs County Junior Red team consisting of Josh West, Grayson Mc-Millian, Alex Patrick, Sean Fitzgerald, and Cody Smith placed 5th overall. The high individual score for the junior team came from Cody Smith who broke 24 out of 25 targets.

Senior team members advancing to state included: Adam Copeland, Tucker Copeland, Ty Foskey, Noah Huey, Caleb Jackson, Dawson McLendon, Alyssa Norfleet, Caroline Page, Ryan Page, Mason Sikes, Memphis Soles, Jayce Taylor, and Drew White. Adam Copeland was the top scorer breaking 25 out of 25 targets.
