Toombs Sheriff Warns Citizens About Scam

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) is informing the public of a phone scam in which citizens receive calls advising them to provide payment information to avoid being arrested. According to the TCSO, many citizens have received calls from an individual who falsely claims to be an employee of the law enforcement office. This individual tells those contacted that there are warrants out for their arrest and that payment is necessary to “avoid an arrest.” These phone calls are not valid or related in any way to the TCSO, which does not contact citizens and provide payment options as an alternative to arrests. If you receive a call from the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and question its validity, contact one of the nonemergency lines, (912) 526-6778 or (912) 526-9292, for verification.
