Butler Over Toombs County

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball team faced off the the Bulldogs of Butler High School out of Augusta last Wednesday in the first round of the GHSA State AA Playoffs. Toombs gave it all they had, but they came up short on the road. A big first quarter from Butler set the tone for the game as they held a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. It was a low scoring second for both teams, and at halftime the score was 28-13 with Toombs trailing.

TCHS did make up some ground in the third period as they outscored Butler 17-13. That made the score heading to the fourth quarter 41-30 with Butler leading.

In the fourth Butler pulled away a bit at the end on the way to a 57-42 win over Toombs. Toombs was led by Maleke Day with 15 points, Dominic Eason added 11, and DJ Mckinney scored 10 in the loss. Toombs finished the year with a record of 8-21, but made it into the playoffs after upsetting Swainsboro in the Region Tournament.
