VHS 2nd In Area Meet

The Vidalia High School Indians wrestling team had a good showing at the Area 2 Traditional Wresting Tournament last week held at Toombs County High School. The Indians had four 1st place finishers along with seven 2nd place, but came up just short as a team as they took 2nd place by just 19 points. At 138lbs. Javarius Worthen took the title with a win by pin over Bruce Agzigian of Toombs County in the finals. Chandler Corbett won the title at 152lbs. He won over Toombs County in the semifinals and then defeated Roman Coley of East Laurens in the finals by pin. Hunter Manning won at 160lbs. After a bye in the quarterfinals, he won in the semifinals over East Laurens and then in the finals over Jeremy Brantley of Toombs County by pin. Decarlos Willingham also had a 1st place finish with his win at 182lbs. After a win in the semifinals over Swainsboro, Willingham defeated Thomas Cloud of Toombs County in the finals by a 15-10 decision. Myikel Johnson was 2nd at 106lbs. He won in the semifinals over Toombs County, but lost in the finals to Kam'Ron Tillman of Swainsboro by pin. Markeal Crawford was 2nd for VHS at 113lbs. He won by pin in the semifinals over Washington County but lost in the finals to Kameron Clark of Toombs County by technical fall. At 126lbs. Gabriel Hightower took 2nd place. He had a bye in the quarters, won over Toombs County in the semifinals but lost in the finals to Tex Edge of East Laurens by pin. Jaylen Lane was 2nd at 132lbs. He won in the semifinals over East Laurens but lost in the finals to Davin Johnson of Toombs County by pin. At 145 Mason Galbreath earned 2nd place. He won over East Laurens in the semifinals and then fell to Zachery Lee of Swainsboro in the finals after he was knocked out of the match due to injury near the end of the 2nd period. Josiah Townsel was 2nd at 220lbs. He won over Swainsboro in the semifinals and then lost to Wil Watts of Toombs County in the final by pin. And Tommy Walker was 2nd at 285lbs. With a win in the semifinals over Swainsboro, but a loss to Brock Nobles in the finals by a close 4-2 decision.

At 170lbs. Ronald Pointer was 3rd. He fell to Toombs County in the semifinals and then had a bye in the conso's for 3rd place. And Levi Palmer lost to Toombs County in the semifinals and then fell to Anthony Canty of Washington County in the consofinals by a 7-0 decision.

Vidalia will move on to the Sectionals which will be held this weekend.
