More Big Wins For RTCA

Robert Toombs Christian Academy's basketball teams played a couple of games last week with the girls taking on Covenant Academy on Tuesday at home, and then both teams hosted Twiggs Academy on Friday.

Girls vs. Covenant

In the Lady Crusaders game with Covenant, the game was close in the first half and the score at halftime was a 14-14 tie.

Early in the third quarter baskets by Ansley Akins put RTCA on top 19-16. Bree Wimberly got a floater in the lane, and it was 25-19 with 3:50 left in the third. Covenant closed it to 25224 with just over a minute left in the third. Covenant then hit a threepointer to take a 27-25 lead over RTCA. RTCA got a free throw from Meredith Durden to make the score 27-26 heading to the fourth quarter.

Ellie Graham gave RTCA the lead 28-27, and Wimberly and Durden extended that lead to 32-28 with 5:30 left to play. Durden got a rebound and put-back, and Wimberly added a pair of free throws to make it 4032 as time was winding down in the game.

RTCA took the win 42-32. RTCA was led by Wimberly with 23 points, Akins added 10 and Durden scored 7 in the win.

Girls vs. Twiggs

The Crusaders hosted Twiggs on Friday and the girls ran away with an easy win. RTCA took the girls game 6023. RTCA was led by Wimberly with 16 points, Durden posted 14 and Akins added 8 in the win.

Boys vs. Twiggs

Twiggs held the lead early in this game, 8-4, but RTCA came back and held an 18-11 lead by the end of the first period. RTCA held a 28-22 lead over the Trojans at halftime.

In the third quarter Drew Vaughn made it 4230, and it was 44-34 at the end of the third. In the fourth MK McBride and Vaughn extended the lead, and a shot by Clayton Meadows made it 5034 as RTCA was pulling away late. RTCA took the win 67-44. RTCA was led by Vaughn with 23 points, McBride scored 14, Jashaun Powell posted 13, and Tyler Buggs scored 8 points in the win. The Lady Crusaders are now 7-10 on the year, but they are 4-0 in the Region. The boys continue their solid season and are 12-1 on the year and are 3-0 in the Region.

This week RTCA was at Memorial Day on Tuesday after presstime and won't play again until Monday of next week against Trinity Christian.
