Mardi Gras began as a Christian holiday that dates back thousands of years to a day (or week) of continuous feasting and merrymaking before beginning the Easter Season.

The religious dates around Mardi Gras are: Dec 25 – Jan 5 (Twelve Days of Christmas), the Nativity of Jesus.

January 6 (Epiphany), the visit of the Magi.

March 1 (Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday), a last night of celebrating and partying and eating rich, fatty foods before Lent begins.
