Lady Eagles Add 3 Wins

The Eagles basketball teams of Montgomery County High School took on Dooly County, Wheeler County, and Dublin last week. The Lady Eagles won all three of their games while the MCHS boys fell in their three games.

Girls vs. Dooly

It was a close game in the first quarter as MCHS led 10-9, but from the start of the second on, it was all Lady Eagles. MCHS outscored the Lady Bobcats 14-8 in the second quarter to take a 24-17 halftime lead. MCHS defense kicked into high gear in the second half as they increased their lead to 4221 by the end of the third and went on to win the game 62-24. MCHS was led by the Bell sisters, with Makyla and Marley each scoring 20 points in the game. Amire Banks added 11 in the win.

Boys vs. Dooly

The boys had a tougher time as they took on Dooly. MCHS fell behind the Bobcats and never could recover. Dooly took the win79-64 over the Eagles.

Girls vs. Wheeler

It has been a tough season for the Lady Bulldogs of Wheeler County, and that was no different on Friday night as they went up against the Lady Eagles. MCHS jumped out to an early lead and rolled to the win. MCHS was on top 21-4 by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Eagles pushed that lead to 54-12 at the end of the first half. In the second half of the game MCHS was substituting throughout. The score was 69-18 at the end of the third, and the Lady Eagles secured the win, 78-19.

MCHS was led by Makyla Bell with 23 points, Marley Bell and Banks added 12 points each. MCHS had 12 girls score points on the night.

Boys vs. Wheeler

The boys game was very different as Wheeler was in control of this one from the beginning. Wheeler was up 19-6 on MCHS early in the second quarter of the game. A three-pointer put Wheeler up 22-6, but a pair of free throws by MCHS made it 22-8. Another three for the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 25-8 with 3:30 left in the half. Xavier Brantley drove into the lane and got a shot to fall, and then a fast break by Brantley closed it to 26-12. But at the end of the first half the score was 27-14 with the Bulldogs out in front.

In the second half of the game the Bulldogs pulled away to a 22-point win. Wheeler got the win 62- 40.

Girls vs. Dublin

The Lady Eagles rolled to an easy win over the Lady Irish. MCHS jumped out to a 20-6 lead by the end of the first and pushed that lead to 29-11 at the end of the half.

MCHS was on top 41-16 heading to the fourth, and took the win, 50- 26. MCHS was led by Makyla Bell with 15 points, Banks added 13, and Marley Bell scored 10 in the win.

Boys vs. Dublin

The Eagles kept it close in the first quarter, but the Irish were too much as they pulled away to win big. The score at the end of the first was 15-12 Irish, but by the end of the first half Dublin was on top 33-20.

In the third quarter Dublin outscored Montgomery 21-11 to lead 5431 heading to the fourth. Dublin took the win 67- 36. This week MCHS will have a rematch with Dublin on Friday at home with the girls game at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday the Eagles will host Jenkins County at 6:00 p.m.
