Medical Staff Youth Advisory Board Begins Another Year

The Memorial Health Meadows Hospital Medical Staff Youth Advisory Board recently began the fourteenth year of the program. The Board is composed of academically gifted high school seniors from six area schools: Montgomery County High School, Robert Toombs Christian Academy, Toombs County High School, Vidalia Heritage Academy, Vidalia High School and Wheeler County High School. Dr. Susanna Meredith, Meadows Gynecologist and Obstetrician, is the Director of the Board. Students meet each month during the school year to learn about healthcare issues affecting the community and to explore careers in healthcare. They also learn how integral healthcare is to the wellness and vitality of a community.

The Meadows Hospital Medical Staff hopes the program will provide the students with information and opportunities and be the impetus of a pursuit of a healthcare related career. The motto for the program is “Leading Today’s Youth to a Healthier Tomorrow.”

Several alumni of the program are currently in medical school, and many others have completed or are in the process of pursuing degrees in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, pharmacy, and other healthcare related fields.
