Lady Dogs Fall To JD

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs softball team had a tough game against the #2 ranked team in the state last Tuesday at Jeff Davis.

The Bulldogs fell behind in the first inning and never could recover. JD scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Toombs closed that lead to 3-2 in the top of the third inning with Nora Grace Mercer driving in both runs.

Jeff Davis extended their lead in the fifth inning with four more runs as they went on top 7-2. Neither team scored over the next two innings as Jeff Davis took the win, 7-2 over Toombs. Riley Lumley and Brinley Miller each added two hits in the game for Toombs.

That was the only game of the week for Toombs. This week they hosted cross-country rival Vidalia, the #1 team in the state, on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Wheeler County at 5:30 p.m., and then on Thursday they will be at Swainsboro at 6:00 p.m.
