Servant Leadership, a core value of Brewton-Parker College, seeks to inspire and develop servant leaders to follow the example of Jesus in selfsacrifice and service to others. During this school year, Brewton-Parker College conducted the Second Annual Servant Leadership Day on August 25, 2021. On Servant Leadership Day, BPC hosted the America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia for Montgomery County, a mobile food pantry, and provided COVID-19 vaccines from Memorial Hospital. Through Feeding America, faculty, staff, students, and members of the community volunteered their time and energy as servant leaders helping to distribute over 500 boxes of food to the local community.

The America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is a member of Feeding America and depends solely on volunteer support. The Feeding America website states the Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Volunteers play an important role in their efforts to end hunger. Volunteers spent the day sorting food, loading food into vehicles, and helping wherever needed.

According to Dr. Beverly Robinson, Vice President of Student Success and Diversity Engagement for BPC and one of the organizers of the event, having the Second Annual Servant Leadership Day, “Our annual Servant Leadership Day is an opportunity for the college to thank the communities we serve through giving. This day also provides an opportunity for our student body to bond and actively engage in and acquire a sense of belonging in a Christian college environment.”

Over 500 Montgomery County families received food and milk as a result of the Second Annual Servant Leadership Day, providing opportunities for the BPC family and community members to follow the example of Jesus in self-sacrifice and service to others as a servant leader.
