CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Spencer Brown, the managing editor for Townhall: House democrats don't care to know how many Americans remain in Afghanistan.

And while they're trying to revive portions of the disastrous H.R.1 federal takeover of elections, a woke infrastructure bill, and the massive $3.5 trillion Biden Budget, there was one thing Democrats didn't want to discuss on Tuesday: Americans left stranded in Afghanistan by the Biden administration.

Not only did they not want to discuss the fate of U.S. citizens facing abandonment, they outright blocked consideration of a bill from Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) that would have provided critical information about Americans in Afghanistan so far not divulged by the Biden administration.

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Stranded in the White House.

'Yes,' the president answered. 'We're considering every opportunity and every means by which we can get folks to the airport.'

So a reminder of the reality that even the president at least indirectly acknowledges: U.S. citizens are stranded in Afghanistan. And the U.S. government needs to rescue them, not to deny that they are stranded at all.

Julio Rosas, Senior Writer for Townhall:

Fox News reporter noticed who Biden didn't speak to at press conference on Afghanistan.

Dana Perino asked [Fox News National Security Correspondent Jennifer] Griffin if there was any frustration at the Pentagon over the last-minute withdrawal and evacuations in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Taliban taking over the country.

'It’s interesting because I didn’t actually hear President Biden speaking to our troops. There's always that catchphrase at the end 'God bless our troops' but I didn’t hear him addressing our troops, I didn’t hear him addressing veterans. I didn't hear any sort of empathy whatsoever,' Griffin said.

David N. Bossie, president of Citizens United and author: Biden keeps creating horrendous crises that could have easily been avoided. What's next?

The various ongoing Biden-created crises — border, Afghanistan, crime, inflation — are all self-inflicted wounds that should cost the Democrats the rest of their radical agenda in the Senate, including the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation boondoggle and election power grab.

Joe Biden and the Democrats returning to Congress for this late summer session must come to grips with the fact that their seven months in power have been a total failure.

Going forward, they should fix the problems they’ve created before adding any more. Otherwise, the American people will surely fix it during the midterm election in fifteen months.
