City of Vidalia Addressing Water Issues

Mayor Doug Roper and the Vidalia City Council have committed to enact a comprehensive program to address water color issues in the city’s water system. The program is expected to include the following activities:

• Night-time ffiushing

to scour the city’s water system of color producing minerals that have settled in the system or along the inner walls of pipelines • Day-time ffiushing to

flush out dead-end pipelines

• Capital expenditures

to replace aging cast iron and galvanized water mains

• Water valve replace – ment and additions to aid in isolation efforts for more effective flushing City officials ask for patience from citizens as work to improve the system begins. Flushing activities may increase color problems in the short term and construction activities may cause traffic interruptions.

A public forum on the proposed water system improvements will be held at the Vidalia Community Center on August 12 at 6 p.m. Following a brief presentation by city officials, citizens will have an opportunity to ask questions.
