RTCA Downed By Gatewood

Robert Toombs Christian Academy's baseball season came to an end last Friday as they took on the Gators of Gatewood School on the road in Eatonton. The Crusaders fell in two games, losing both by the run rule.

Game 1

In the top of the first inning with Hayden Kite on base, a single by Rob Moore put runners at the corners. But a ground out ended the RTCA threat. In the bottom of the first inning Gatewood picked up the first run of the game, and then on a single up the middle the Gators went ahead 3-0. They added one more run on a hit into left field for a 4-0 lead.

Gatewood pushed their lead to 6-0 on a 2 RBI single in the top of the second inning. They added another run on a hit into right and by the end of the inning it was a 7-0 lead for the Gators.

RTCA did put two runners on base in the top of the third inning, and a hit by Dawson Pinkard loaded the bases for the Crusaders, but there were two outs. A strikeout ended the RTCA chance.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Gators loaded the bases, and a hit batter put them up 8-0 on RTCA. RTCA did only allow the one run, but it was 8-0 heading to the top of the fifth inning.

Gatewood scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they took the win, 10-0 by the run rule.

Game 2

In the second game a lead off hit, a stolen base and an error brought in the first run of the game for the Gators in the top of the first inning. They added two more on a hit into left field for a 3-0 lead. The Gators added another run on an error for a 4-0 lead. They made it 5-0 on a hit to right and then a 2 RBI hit to the fence made it 7-0 heading to the bottom of the first inning.

In the bottom of the inning Pinkard did get a hit, but that was all for RTCA. RTCA did manage a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 8-1, but in the top of the fourth the Gators extended their lead to 15-1 as they scored seven more times. Gatewood went on to win the game 17-1 over RTCA to end the Crusaders season.
